Sunday morning I woke up in San Diego. Read a book by the Marina. Tried my first Matcha. And, created the perfect backdrop for a DIY postcard. By evening I was back in Los Angeles, recharged and preparing to slay the week ahead!
Here’s why I absolutely love day trips with zero real commitments, like these, and you should too!
They Eliminate Stress. Vacations are very important for more than just having fun. Since we opted against the hustle and bustle of busy Market Street to stay further in Downtown, we were able to experience a more relaxing vibe near the water. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina offered a food and beverage credit as well as a complimentary hour bike rental to explore the area. This setting provided the perfect balance to a quick turnaround.
The main goal of a getaway is to give ourselves a short break from daily life. Taking such time, regularly, away can help invigorate your creativity, push productivity and change your overall mood. We constantly need day-, bae- and stay-cations so that we can return to our lives refreshed and better equipped to handle whatever comes.
You will Leave Inspired. Since I was young, I’ve been a very picky eater. If it wasn’t your typical meat and veggie options, I wasn’t having it. I remember my mother used to make this AMAZING squash casserole. How did I know it was amazing? I smelt it, LOL, because I for sure wasn’t going to taste it. I still haven’t to this day.
But, I’m trying to change that. Really. I have this personal goal of trying at least one new thing a month. So, a little over a year ago I tried some sautéed Squash and Zucchini. I LOVED it, and the vegetables have since been added to my palette almost weekly. Perhaps, I’ll try my mother’s casserole the next time I’m in Nashville.
Anyway, for May and because of this spur of the moment trip, I decided to try Matcha. Now, this is big for me because I really don’t like anything that looks like it could be or tastes like coffee. So, Cappuccino, Macchiato, Frappuccino, Espresso, all of those are a no. I for sure, knew Matcha would probably be the same. But, when I found the most ADORABLE beverage shop I’ve ever seen, I knew I had to go if not just for the Instastory.
We stopped by Holy Matcha at the perfect time. It was slow enough for us to really ask about items on the menu, get recommendations and take some super cute photos. Really the holy grail of specialty tea, this trendy little place offers a variety of Matcha style beverages and vegan bites. I tried a Holy M with Rose Water and the BEST strawberry vegan donut I have EVER had! It was well worth the price and honestly the drive to San Diego. LOL! *P.S., for those interested they offer CBD infused drinks. And the decor and ambiance totally spoke to my inspiration and love for ALL THINGS pink and green!
You’ll Have Plenty of Random Fun. Make an effort to do things that you normally wouldn’t do. We totally had no agenda for this trip, which is unusual for a Haute Traveller like myself. We literally rented a car from Hertz two hours before we left. Googled a hotel along the way. And, Instagram stalked things to do in San Diego once we arrived. Let me tell you…I had THEE most fun! We found nearly every street art recommended. Ate seafood. Hunted for thrift stores and took some great photos. I even created my own postcard.
This trip really showed me that you can let go and have a great time. I definitely came back inspired and ready to take on the world! Stay tuned for more of my DIY travel stories and tips.
